PTA Reflections Programs Past and Future
Reported by Amy Roos
Thanks Again to the
2007-2008 Reflections Co-Chairs Peg Tipka and Sarah
Taylor. They organized and executed a wildly successful event for
the children in our Hudson City Schools on behalf of the PTA. This past
years’ creative theme was
“I can make a difference, by….”, students in PreK thru 12th grade submitted 91 creative expressions that
represented their interpretation of the given theme through various
artistic mediums. The art was gathered, displayed and judged in the
Hudson Public Library last November. From those entries, 24 local
winning pieces were selected and sent on to Columbus to compete at State
level of the PTA Reflections program, 5 students were honored at the
State competition and 3 pieces were chosen went on the compete at the
National level. WOW, what a night, we had over 300 people attend the
awards ceremony at Ellsworth Hill School.
Congratulations go to the
following students who won locally and advanced to the next level,
nearly 20% of our students were honored at that level; Amy Zhou, Michael Von
Ville, Greg Reiman, Courtney Heller, James Tipka, Olivia Zaleski,
Samantha Greer, Kathleen Greer, Larry Meehan, Rebecca Witt, Ari Basu,
James Brunemann, Maureen Moffitt, Anisha Basu, Colleen Lowman, Faith
Cahoon, Anthea Premraj, Randall Nye, additional honors to these
five highlighted names who received awards at the Ohio State PTA level;
Amy Breedon, Benjamin Arigo, Stephanie Lee, Olivia
Nitsche, Juliet Zito. The last three artists listed here, advanced
even further to show at the National PTA Reflections level. WOW! What
talented youth we have at our own Hudson City Schools.
Besides acknowledging the
good leadership, supportive teachers and talented students who
participated last school season, we want to give thanks to all the many
volunteers and generous benefactors that made this program to flow so
smoothly and be enjoyable to all. WOW! You all deserve a round of
applause.
Looking ahead, 2008 -2009
Reflections program planning is already underway. The theme this fall
is “WOW”. So encourage the artists in your home to get started
creating now. We anticipate even more prizes awarded to local level
participating students, and workshops hosted to encourage participation
by all students interested.
Amy Roos and Connie
Johnston hope to continue with last years’ example of successful
leadership as co-chairs for 2008-2009 and would like to welcome anyone
interested in volunteering time or prizes to contact us at either
aroos@hudson-pta.org
or 330-962-4292 as soon as possible. Thank you!

entries a student may enter.
"The program is designed to enhance rather than replace a quality arts
education. It provides opportunities for students to express themselves
and to receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts.
Parents, teachers, and community members all play a critical role in
fostering a positive learning environment for children. Supporting the
Reflections Program is one way adults can help maintain that
environment."-National PTA
The National PTA gives out 12 Awards of Excellence, three to each grade
division. Up to five Awards of Merit may be given in each grade division
of each arts area. Awards of Excellence recipients receive a $200.00
cash award and a silver-plated Reflections medallion. Awards of Merit
recipients receive a silver-plated Reflections medallion. Four
Outstanding Interpretation Awards are given by the National PTA to
recognize the most creative interpretation of the theme in each of the
arts areas, regardless of grade division. They receive an expense- paid
trip for themselves and one adult to the national PTA Convention, a

sponsor related gifts.
The Hudson PTA will begin collecting entries October 1st at the offices
of each school building in the district. The final day to turn-in your
entries is October 31st. All entries will be displayed in the Hudson
Library and we will have a local panel of judges selecting our top 16
entries in each category in each grade division to go on to State
competition. The 2007-2008 theme will be "I can make a difference by..."
Good Luck Hudson students! We look forward to seeing your creative works
of art and literature.
